What are the base oils used in your handmade soap?

We use a base recipe of five oils: Olive, Castor, Coconut, RSPO Sustainable Palm Oil and Shea butter. Our soap is vegan!

Are your soaps natural?

Several of our bars are 100% natural including Peppermint Tea Tree, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus and Orange, and Orange, Cinnamon & Clove. Every other soap ranges from 97%-100% natural.

What process do you use to make your soap?

Lion & Rose soaps are made using the ancient tradition known as cold process soap making "from scratch." In cold process soap making, no additional heat sources are used to accelerate the chemical reaction between the sodium hydroxide and the oils. The process of the oils and sodium hydroxide binding in a chemical reaction is called saponification and takes about 18-24 hours. After the soaps have saponified, soap is removed from the mold, cut into bars and cured for 4-6 weeks, which allows proper time for water evaporation, which creates a mild, firm bar of soap. An excess of 5-7% of the oils are left unsaponified, leaving your skin to reap the rewards of the natural, skin-loving oils. CEO, Shelly Morris, created a unique recipe that contains the perfect amount of  hard oils and butters, with milder oils, that help nourish and protect the skin.

What makes Lion & Rose Soaps different?

Lion & Rose soaps not only are choc-full of luxurious, natural ingredients, but they are crafted in small batches, using artistic touches such as marbling and swirling techniques and hand-sculpted tops. These artistic touches transform our soaps from utilitarian, to works of art. Also, Lion & Rose has hand-crafted thousands of batches, perfecting the scent combinations and artistic techniques. Our bars make perfect gifts too!

Are your soaps cruelty-free?

Absolutely! We love animals at Lion and Rose and would never use them as test subjects!

Do you use any animal products in your soap?

All of our soaps are vegan. Even the Oatmeal, milk and honey soap!

Are your soaps gluten-free?

All of our soaps and deodorants are gluten-free, with the exception of the NW Beer Soap, which contains barley.

What do you use to scent your soaps?

We love essential oils, but we also love fragrance oils. Essential oils are plant extracts. They're made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance. It can take several pounds of a plant to produce a single bottle of essential oil. Some essential oil scents fade in soap, so Lion & Rose chooses essential oils with staying power such as peppermint, lavender, lemongrass, tea tree, orange, eucalyptus, cinnamon and clove essential oils.

Fragrance oils are synthetic, but designed specifically for bath and beauty products and are skin-safe. They’re created with a mix of aromatic chemicals and natural ingredients like essential oils, extracts, and resins.

How long will a bar of soap last?

Lion & Rose soaps are created using CEO Shelly Morris's very own recipe. which includes plenty of moisturizing Shea Butter and Coconut Oil, which produce a hard bar of soap. As long as you keep your soap dry between uses (soap rack), your bar should last at least a month in the shower. In fact, most of our customers complain that they last "too long" and want to get to the next scent they purchased!

Are they safe for children and those with sensitive skin?

Absolutely! Lion & Rose soaps are extremely gentle and safe for even the youngest skin. The reality is that store bought soap isn't really soap at all, but rather detergent. They are filled with harmful ingredients and chemicals used to preserve the soap, help create synthetic lather and create a hard bar. Handmade soaps are healthy for the skin and contains luxurious, gentle, skin-loving ingredients such as olive oil, coconut oil and shea butter. It takes time and patience to create natural, handmade soap, but it's worth the wait.

Do your deodorants actually work?

We have received so many testimonials singing the praises about our natural deodorant and how it is the only natural deodorant that has ever worked. Lion & Rose 100% natural deodorant was created with ingredients specifically designed to neutralize odor, smell great, and absorb excess moisture. Every ingredient was thoughtfully chosen to make a effective, natural, safe and luxurious product. Plus, our deodorants are scented only with essential oils that not only smell great, but also have anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-fugal and anti-inflammatory properties.

How often will I need to apply?

Apply as needed, but typically, once a day should do the trick. When applying, can hold the stick against your body for a few seconds, your body warmth will help aid in softening the stick for easier application.

What's the difference between antiperspirant and deodorant?

The purpose of an antiperspirant is to physically stop the body from sweating, and when the body is not allowed to sweat, the bacteria that causes odor cannot form. However, harmful chemicals such as aluminum are often used in antiperspirants to stop the body from it's natural process of sweating. Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and Breast Cancer. Lion & Rose is 100% natural, which allows the body to sweat, but neutralizes odor and contains plant-based powders that keep you fresh!

Are your deodorants natural?
